The Physiotherapy Clinic – Newbury, Berkshire

neurological physiotherapy

Neurological physiotherapy is the treatment of people with movement and functional disorders that have originated within the central nervous system: the brain and the spinal cord.

These conditions can manifest themselves as muscle weakness, impaired balance and coordination, uncontrolled muscle spasm and tremors, loss of function and decreased sensation.

Neurological conditions that we treat include, but are not limited to:-

  • Stroke or TIA
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Functional neurological disorder (FND)
  • Spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome

Your physiotherapist will discuss your problems and aims with you to help set goals for your rehabilitation. They will perform a functional assessment to analyse any movement problems and devise a personal rehabilitation program based on their findings.

Neurological physio may include hands-on therapies, specific exercise prescription with a home exercise program, along with practical problem solving of your functional difficulties.

This can be done in our large treatment room here at the clinic or at your home if more appropriate.
